Toxic plants in teaching of biology at secondary schools
Riegelová, Marta ; Rajsiglová, Jiřina (advisor) ; Chlebounová, Irena (referee)
This diploma thesis is dedicated to teaching botany, and is focused namely on lessons concerning toxic plants. The first part deals with creating of worksheets for secondary school students for field trip into Botanic Garden of Faculty of Science, Charles University in Prague. The second part compares effectiveness of classical lesson and the field trip. Students of the first grades from four secondary schools (grammar schools) were divided into two groups. The first group was taught by classic conventional teaching in classroom (control group) and the second group (experimental) was taken for the field trip to the Botanic Garden of Faculty of Science, Charles University in Prague. The effectiveness of education was measured by means of a knowledge test before the lesson (pre-test) and after it (post-test). Level of knowledge increased in experimental groups and control groups, however, the difference between individual groups was not significant. Key words: toxic plants, botanical garden, field trips, worksheets, knowledge testing
Testing the influence of newly created learning materials for the fluorescent microscope on students` knowledge
Filipová, Jana ; Janštová, Vanda (advisor) ; Mourek, Jan (referee)
Among students, interest in Science is decreasing, despite the fact that knowledge of Science can be useful in many real life situations, such as medicine, conservation etc. Science education can also simply help to form a positive attitude towards nature. There are many possibilities of increasing students' interest in Science that could increase their motivation to study. Apart from Inquiry Based Education or Prescribed Practical Activities, working with devices used in research practice is one of the possibilities. If a school doesn't own such devices, there is a possibility to borrow them, or to work with them via the Internet. Possibilities of remote access to these devices are subject to research abroad, and this trend is also starting to appear in the Czech Republic. One example of a device that can be borrowed by schools is a fluorescence microscope at the Department of Didactics and Education of Biology, Faculty of Science, Charles University in Prague. In my thesis, I was investigating the influence of the presence or absence of this fluorescence microscope on the knowledge of students. Research was carried out in four different classes at two secondary schools in Prague. Students who took part in this research were from the first year of a four year secondary school or from the third...

Design and testing of students'materials for a field trip to Brdy area
Přibylová, Anna ; Janštová, Vanda (advisor) ; Kroufek, Roman (referee)
The reason why I chose this topic is that field trips (short-term or long-term) have demonstrable effect on students' knowledge, values and attitudes as well as teachers' skills. The objective of this thesis was to prepare a field trip including all needed teaching materials and evaluate it's effect on students' knowledge. Created teaching materials were tested in four classes in two primary school in Příbram and a nearby village. Students from these schools were divided into two groups - experimental and control. The experimental group attended the field trip and the control group got involved in the same program but at school. Both groups completed pretest, teaching, posttest 1 (with a feedback about teaching), posttest 2 and 3. Data collected from this research were evaluated using statistical methods. The results from these methods proved a significant difference of knowledge between groups in posttest 1 and 2. The score of both groups gained in posttest 3 was similar. We can conclude that students of both groups learned new information and their knowledge improved. Nevertheless the field trip had significantly higher effect on students' knowledge than the school lesson. Key words: teaching methods, field trip, students' knowledge, knowledge testing

System for preparation, realization and evaluation of tests
Mottl, Jan ; Pecinovský, Rudolf (advisor) ; Hamendi, Mohammed (referee)
The thesis focuses on the design and implementation of the system for preparation, realization and evaluation of tests. The objective was to analyze tests and textual format for import of these tests to Integrated Study Information System of the University of Economics. The next objective was the implementation of the student testing system based on the analysis. The last objective was writing user manuals. In the beginning there are briefly described concepts associated with teaching supported by information technologies and electronic testing. Then the analysis of tests and textual format for import of these tests is performed. From the analysis system requirements are derived. The thesis then describes the design and implementation of the system and user manuals for teach-ers and students are written. The contribution of the thesis is implemented student testing system that facilitates preparation of tests mainly for teachers who teach at more schools than just at the University of Economics.
Creation of entering and system for entering and evaluating term paper of the subject 4IT340 - Introduction to Database Administration
Starý, Jan ; Macák, Petr (advisor) ; Krch, David (referee)
The thesis focuses on the creation of entering and system for entering and evaluating term paper of the subject 4IT340 - Introduction to Database Administration. The objectives of the thesis are the analysis of systems that are used to test knowledge, the creation of term paper entering and the creation of an application that enters the work to students as well as judge it. Firstly, the current state of entering a term paper has been analysed and consequently key demands have been defined. I've tried to find a suitable system on the basis of these demands. Since it wasn't possible to find a suitable system, the only possibility left was to develop a new application. This application has been developed on the school server Oracle. The main functionality is provided by storage procedures programmed in PL / SQL. Furthermore, entering a term paper, which consists of a series of practical tasks has been created. This entering was subsequently imported into the application. Finally, documentation which includes the description of the application installation procedure and user manual has been created. The developed system has been already tested and is ready to be put into full operation.
